BJP blames Cong for delay in notification to stop sealing

New Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI) The ruling BJP in MCD todayblamed Congress-ruled Central and Delhi governments for"failing" to find out a permanent solution to the problems ofsealing and demolition in the city''s special areas, ruralareas and unauthorised colonies.

Leader of the House in Municipal Corporation of DelhiSubhash Arya said this has left the sword of demolitionhanging over people in these areas, due to which they areneither being able to repair or rebuild their old houses northe MCD is being able to sanction their building plans.

He said the Congress government has from time to timeissued notification to prevent sealing and demolition inDelhi''s ''special areas'', unauthorised colonies, rural areas,slum clusters and farmhouses. However, the term of the lastnotification ended on December 31 last year.

The BJP leader said he has raised the matter with theUnion Urban Development Minister earlier. In a letter onOctober 6, 2010, he had written that necessary amendmentsshould soon be made in Master Plan for Delhi-2021 so that apermanent solution to the problem of demolition can be found.

Arya had also requested the Urban Development Ministerthat the Central government should issue a notification tostop sealing and demolitions till December 31, 2011, beforethe amendment is made. However, he said, the issuing ofnotification on a regular basis results in building up ofavoidable tension and rise in corruption.

"Therefore, the Central government should take promptaction in this regard," the BJP leader said.

A notification should be issued to stop demolition andsealing with immediate effect, he said.
