Amend DMC Act for house tax exemption to villages: BJP

New Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI) The ruling BJP in MCD todaydemanded that the Delhi government should quicken the processof amending the law governing the civic agency to ensureexemption from property tax for unauthorised colonies, ruralareas and urban villages in the city.

"Delhi and Central governments have failed to bringamendment in the DMC (Delhi Municipal Corporation) Actproviding exemption from property tax in unauthorised coloniesand villages," Chairman of MCD Standing Committee YogenderChandolia said in a statement.

He said BJP during its present tenure in MCD has passedfive resolutions to this effect. He said Delhi government mustimmediately issue a notification for property tax exemption invillages, urban villages and unauthorised colonies. "Theexemption should be made applicable from 2007 itself."

"Delhi government should quicken the process of amendmentin the DMC Act so that not only unauthorised colonies, butrural and urban villages are also exempted from property tax,"Chandolia said.
