Woman murdered as robbers decamp with cash and gold

Meerut, Jan 19 (PTI) An elderly woman was murdered bysome unidentified persons, who barged into the house anddecamped with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 50,000 here,police said.

Some unidentified persons broke into the house of SubInspector Sushma Chowdhary yesterday when she was out of thehouse and fled with jewellery and cash after strangulatingher mother Rajbeeri (74), who was alone at that time of theincident, they said.

The incident came to light when Sushma made calls to hermother and she received no answer following which the SIcalled her neighbours, who broke open the door and foundRajbeeri strangled to death with a pillow, police said.

Police suspect involvement of some known person and havearrested a security guard in this regard.

A case has been registered and the body has been sentfor post mortem for further investigations, SP Sudhir KumarSingh said.
