Sister seeks intl pressure on Pak for Sarabjit''s release

Jalandhar, Jan 18 (PTI) Sister of Sarabjit Singh, who isfacing death sentence in Pakistan for a string of bomb blastsin 1990s, today sought international pressure on theneighbouring country for her brother''s release.

"I have talked to various delegates who have come toattend the Punjab NRI Summit-2011 here for the release of mybrother," Sarabjit''s sister Dalbir Kaur said.

"I met Virender Sharma, Indian-origin Labor Party MP, andalso talked to Ruby Dhala, a Canadian lawmaker, over thephone...I also mailed my appeal to Sukh Dhaliwal, four-timeCanadian MP of Indian origin," she said here.

She said Sarabjit was implicated in the case. The actualculprit is alleged fraudster Manjeet Singh.

"In fact, Manjeet had committed the offence for whichSarabjit was made a scapegoat," Kaur said.

Manjeet Singh was arrested by Panchkula Police in Haryanalast year in a fraud case. After his arrest, Kaur had allegedhe was behind the bomb blasts in Pakistan and her brother''scase was that of a mistaken identity.

The lawyer of Sarabjit, who is languishing in a Pakistaniprison, had said he had filed a fresh mercy petitioncontending his client''s case was that of a mistaken identityand Manjeet was behind the bomb blasts.
