EC special team visits two districts in poll-bound W Bengal
Kolkata, Jan 18 (PTI) Members of Election Commission teamthat would make an independent assessment of the law and ordersituation in poll-bound West Bengal, visited two districts inthe state today.
Sudhir Kumar Rakesh, the team leader and Chief ElectoralOfficer of Bihar and Zaki Ahmed, DIG National Crime RecordsBureau, held a meeting with North 24 Parganas DistrictMagistrate Vinod Kumar and Superintendent of Police RahulSrivastava besides visiting Sashan area, that recentlywitnessed clashes between CPI(M) and Trinamool activists.
The two officials also visited the home of MahanandaSardar, a Trinamool worker killed in the recent politicalviolence at Sasan. Some villagers there complained about lackthe of police action to curb the clashes.
Two others EC observers, P R K Naidu, DIG National CrimeRecords Bureau and V S Reddy, DIG Andhra Pradesh, held ameeting with West Midnapore District Magistrate Surindar Guptaat the circuit house in Midnapore town in the morning.
They told the DM that the full six-member team would beback on January 20 or 21 as part of their mission to submit areport to the Election Commission. .
