Case of extortion registered against Gram Pradhan

Muzaffarnagar, Jan 19 (PTI) A case has been registeredagainst the Gram Pradhan of Morna village and three others forallegedly demanding extortion money from a contractor, policesaid here.

Gram Pradhan Mahak Singh and three others had allegedlydemanded Rs 50,000 as extortion money yesterday from thecontractor involved in construction of roads, they said.

The accused also made castiest remarks against him andthreatened him of dire consequences if he did not meet theirdemands, police said.

While one accused has been arrested, a probe is on to nabthe Gram Pradhan and others, they added.

In a separate case, three persons, including a newlyelected Gram Pradhan Pushpendra, sustained bullet injuries ina clash over a minor dispute between two groups at Simlivillage in the district yesterday, police said.

An investigation is on to look into the matter, theysaid.
