Adequate compensation sought for farmers for land acquisition
Patna, Jan 20 (PTI) The NCP today demanded adequatecompensation to the farmers for acquisition of their land forinfrastructure projects to prevent repeat of the protests likethe one at Nabi Nagar in Bihar''s Aurangabad district lastweek.
"The state government should ensure that the farmersgot a satisfactory compensation for parting away with theirland for infrastructure projects in the state," NCP GeneralSecretary Tariq Anwar told reporters here.
He condemned the police lathicharge on the farmers atNabi Nagar in Aurangabad district last week during a protestagainst inadequate compensation in lieu of acquisition oftheir land for construction of a thermal power project by theNTPC in which 25 farmers were injured.
Anwar also hit out at the NDA government for levyingfuel surcharge on electricty on the consumers apparently toreclaim the high cost paid to the NTPC for electricitypurchase in the past and asked the state government torollback its decision in order to give a respite from theprice rise to the common man.
Asking the state government to withdraw the fuelcharge on electricity by January 30, Anwar said that otherwisehis party will launch a state-wide agitation. PTI KDK
