Youth Cong members should work for party not self: Jitendra
Mumbai, Jan 18 (PTI) AICC secretary-in-charge of YouthCongress Jitendra Singh today said that members andoffice-bearers of the organisation were expected to devote alltheir energies to the party and not to their individualoutfits.
Kick-starting the process of membership drive of theYouth Congress in Maharashtra, Singh said the existingcommittee stood dissolved and the new members and the electedoffice-bearers will have to work for strengthening theCongress party only.
He was responding to questions regarding the party''sstand on whether it would induct Nitesh Rane, son ofIndustries Minister Narayan Rane, who heads an NGO called''Swabhiman'', into the Youth Congress.
Singh said if the party found that activities of any ofits members was detrimental to the interests of the Congress,action would be taken.
The Congress MP from Alwar said Maharashtra will be thefirst state where a state president/Lok Sabha/assemblypresident and office-bearers will be elected from the boothlevel.
He said the Youth Congress had completed itsorganisational elections in 15 states and had 71 lakh members.
Tamil Nadu has topped with more than 14 lakh members.
"Maharashtra will overtake Tamil Nadu in terms ofmembership," he said adding that the membership drive willcontinue till February 16.
The Youth wing is in the process of introducing aperformance measurement system where members andoffice-bearers will be evaluated on the basis of how wellconnected he/she is at the grassroots and among the people.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to arrive on a three-day tour ofthe state next week to interact with youth from differentwalks of life, he said.
