One millionth tyre rolls out from Apollo Tyres plant

Chennai, Jan 18 (PTI): Apollo Tyres has rolled out itsone millionth tyre from its plant at suburban Oragadam.

The company began commercial production at the facility10 months back.

Apollo Tyres crossed the one million tyre mark late lastnight with production of passenger vehicle tyre Apollo Acelere185/65 R14, a company statement here said.

"The Chennai team has done a very commendable job in ashort span of time. However, this is just the start of ourjourney in Chennai. We are confident of achieving many suchmilestones", Apollo Tyres India Operations-Chief SatishSharma said.

The company recently signed a supplementary MoU with theTamil Nadu government to revise its investment from Rs 450crore to 2,100 crore over a five year period. About 2,000people are likely to be employed both directly and indirectlyat the facility.

The Chennai facility produces 7,000 passenger vehicletyres and 1,300 truck-bus radials per day.
