Man commits suicide, family blames police

Kanpur, Jan 18 (PTI) A youth has committed suicide inBidhun here after police allegedly booked him under a falsetheft case.

The family members of the victim alleged that Shiv Babu(21) hanged himself from a tree after police registered afalse case of theft against him and tortured him to confess tothe crime.

"Police registered a false case of theft against him,besides threatening him and beating him to confess to theft.

When he refused to do so they threatened him of direconsequences fearing which he committed suicide," victim''smother Chandni said.

Refuting the claims of victim''s mother, police saidthough Shiv was called to the police station, he was allowedto go back after preliminary inquiry.

Meanwhile, the body of the victim has been sent for postmortem and further investigations are on, police added. PTIZIR RET
