Vimala Gowda files nomination for deputy chairperson

Bangalore, Jan 16 (PTI): BJP Legislative Council MemberVimala Gowda is all set to become Deputy Chairperson of theKarnataka Legislative Council after filing her nomination forthe post, elections for which will be held tomorrow.

Vimala''s nomination comes following the ouster of Puttanafrom the house.

Vimala was the only person to file her nomination today forthe post that went vacant.

For the first time in its history, the Deputy Chairman ofKarnataka Legislative Council Puttanna was removed from hispost last week by a no-confidence motion moved by the rulingBJP, bringing to fore its majority in the 75-member house.

The no-confidence motion was moved against Puttanna (JDS)for his alleged anti-goverment outbursts.

BJP has a strength of 39 members, followed by Congress 17,JDS 15, JDU 1 and Independents 3.
