UP: Court remains inconclusive on Banda girl's age

The court on Monday, Jan 17, stated that as all relevant documents of the case are under the possession of Allahabad High Court, it (Banda court) could not decide that whether the girl is a minor or not.
The principal of the school, where the rape victim reportedly studied, claimed that she was born in Feb 1992, which would make her almost 19-year-old.

But Suresh Nishad, the girl's lawyer reiterated that the documents submitted by the principal are fudged.
A court-appointed medical board has been vague about the girl's age, saying she is 'about 18 years old' while the victim claims she is 17.
The court's decision was believed to be vital for the BSP MLA rape caae as well. Based on the victim's age the nature of charges were supposed to be filed against Dwivedi. Now, it will be difficult for the officials to file charges against the accused as factual information about the victim's age remained inconclusive.
