TN Govt confers awards on Congress leaders

Chennai,Jan16 (PTI) Two senior Congress leaders, includingparty spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan, were today presentedawards by the DMK Government in Tamil Nadu for theircontributions to development of Tamil language and socialjustice.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi presented the "PerunthalaivarKamaraj Annual Award, named after veteran Congress leader andformer Chief Minister Kamaraj, to Jayanthi Natarajan, MP.

Congress Deputy Legislature party leader D Yasodha waspresented the "Ambedkar Award".

MLA of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, a dalit-basedparty, D Ravikumar, was presented the "Aringar Anna Award" byKarunanidhi at a function held here to celebrate"Thiruvalluvar Day''--Tamil saint-poet Thiruvalluvar''s birthanniversary.

They were among a list of persons who were selected by theGovernment for its annual awards, honouring persons who havecontributed for the development of Tamil language and socialjustice.

Karunanidhi also presented shawls, a gold medal and a cashprize of Rs one lakh to the award winners.
