Sugar eases on weak demand

Mumbai, Jan 17 (PTI) Sugar prices declined modestly atthe Vashi Wholesale market here today on lower offtake fromretailers amidst adequate stock positions.

Medium sugar quality (M-30) slipped by Rs 10 per quintalto Rs 2,906/2,981 from last Saturday''s closing level of Rs2,916/2,981.

Small sugar quality (S-30) also moved down by a similarmargin to finish at Rs 2,881/2,921 per quintal, as comparedto Rs 2,881/2,931 last weekend.

The following are today''s closing rates per quintal, withthe previous rates in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality Rs 2,881/2,921 (Rs 2,881/2,931) and medium sugar (M-30) quality Rs 2,906/2,981(Rs 2,916/2,981).
