Mamata-Maoists relation causes violence in WB: CPM

Kolkata, Jan 17: Communist Party of India (Marxist) slammed Election Commission for appointing a special team to report the ground situation in West Bengal, which has been witnessed political clash between CPM and Trinamool Congress supporters.

CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat said that the step taken by Election Commission was unheard and first of it kind. He also added that EC had never sent a team to the other poll-bound states.

"The Election Commission of India has taken an unprecedented step. We do not think this will contribute to the capacity of the state administration to organize a free and fair election and maintain law and order," Prakash Karat said.

CPM leader added that the Home Minister P Chidambaram is trying to divert the root cause of the clash between CPM and Trinamool. Karat accused that the real cause of violence in West Bengal is the collaboration between the Trinamool and the Maoists.

"The main source of violence in the state, the root cause for that is the collaboration between the Trinamool and the Maoists... it is surprising that the union Home Minister seeks to divert from this main cause of violence and make allegations against the CPI-M," Karat added.
