Cyber attacks, future global shock

Cyber War
London, Jan 17: The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), on Jan 17, said that cyber attacks now have the capacity to cause a global catastrophe, but only when they are combined with another disaster.

The observation came under a study undertaken by OECD on "Future Global Shocks". It assured that very few cyber events, can cause a global shock in isolation. But warned that if multiple cyber attacks were carried out in tandem, then it could spell disaster.

In the report written by Professor Peter Sommer of the London School of Economics and Dr Ian Brown of Britain's Oxford University, it is said, "In that eventuality, 'perfect storm' conditions could exist."

The US is bracing up for a cyber attacks and has already set up a military cyber command. On the other hand, China and Russia are gearing up to assert their authority in this field and challenge the US' conventional military dominance.

The report concludes that Cyber attack would be omnipresent in future military conflicts.
