CWG corruption: CBI to question Kalmadi today?

Suresh Kalmadi
New Delhi, Jan 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is preparing to question the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi for the second time in connection with the allegations of corruption in the preparation of Commonwealth Games.

Sources close to CBI reported that the investigative agency will file a fresh FIR against Organizing Committee (OC) members and officials related to their alleged involvement in misappropriation of funds in renovation of stadiums and question Kalmadi shortly.

Earlier, CBI questioned Kalmadi on Jan 5 related to the allegations of making money in renovation of stadiums. CBI had filed four FIRs in the case and arrested three close aides of Kalmadi. Later, court granted bail to them.

A senior CBI official said that the OC members have made some last moment decisions to benefit some firms and contractors to charge more. CBI is also probing the financial irregularities in renovation works done in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Complex, Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex, Major Dhyanchand National Stadium and Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range.
