Canadian MP advocates data base of marriage registration

Chandigarh, Jan 16 (PTI) Member of Canadian ParliamentRuby Dhalla today said a data base of marriage registrationsshould be created by Punjab government so that credentials ofany NRI who comes back here for marriage could be checked.

"The issue of fraud marriages is very serious. I met some60 women in Ramoowalia village who were deserted by theirhusbands. Marriage is not a business. The men come, marry thewomen and go back and never come back as they are alreadymarried abroad," she told reporters here.

She said that she had also told Punjab Chief MinisterParkash Singh Badal about it.

She said that the marriage should be immediatelyregistered and both husband and wife should sign and when aNRI comes the girl''s family could check the credentials of theboy and vice versa.
