2 held for extorting money on LeT letter heads

Srinagar, Jan 17 (PTI) Two persons allegedly involved incollecting money on the letter heads of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT)were arrested in Baramulla district of north Kashmir today, apolice spokesman said.

Acting on a specific information, the police nabbedMohammad Shafi Bhat and Mohammad Irfan from their houses inBehrampora village of Sopore, 55 kms from here, he said.

A computer and letter heads of LeT were recovered fromthem, he said adding they were using the letters to collectmoney from the people in the town.

In another case, the spokesman said police arrested threepersons impersonating as forest officials and extorting moneyfrom people in the area.

They have been identified as Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, HilalAhmad Malla and Abdul Qayoom Chopan, all residents ofAmargarh-Sopore, the spokesman said.

He said a sports utility vehicle and Rs 20,000 wererecovered from them.

Meanwhile, the Sopore police seized fake currency noteswith a face value of Rs 1.15 lakh and arrested two persons.
