Suspend Banda SP: Cong MLA

Lucknow, Jan 15 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief MinisterMayawati should immediately suspend the Banda SP and otherpolice personnel, who implicated a dalit rape victim in atheft case, and initiate legal actions against them, aCongress MLA from Banda demanded.

"When Mayawati herself has said that the rape victimgirl was falsely implicated in a theft case then she shouldimmediately suspend Banda SP Anil Das and other policepersonnel, lodge FIR against them and they should be jailed,"Vivek Kumar Singh, MLA from Sadar seat in Banda, said in astatement today.

He said "these police personnel should be chargedfor giving wrong statements, implicating in a false case andpressurising the victim girl to change her statement."

"The manner in which the girl spent a month in thejail despite being an innocent, the government shouldapologise to her and give a compensation of Rs 25 lakh forrehabilitation," the lawmaker demanded.

Meanwhile, the Congress has demanded the ChiefMinister to increase security cover of MLA Singh.

"MLA Singh not only exposed the case, but alsoactively ensured justice to the girl. More so in the wake ofthreat given by BSP MLA Purshottam Naresh Dwiwedi (arrested onrape charge), Singh''s security should be beefed up," UPCongress chief Bahuguna Joshi demanded in a letter sent toMayawati.
