Student leader arrested

Cuttack, Jan 16 (PTI) President of RavenshawUniversity Students� Union, who was wanted in connection withassault of photojournalists in the university campus, has beenarrested, police said today.

������� Union president Harishankar Rout had allegedly led agroup of students in assaulting the mediamen brandishing acountry-made revolver on Thursday when the latter had gone tothe university to cover the group clash between local andforeign students, they said.

At least five FIRs were filed against the studentleader by the journalists and he was booked under varioussections of IPC and Arms Act.

������� Journalists had staged a dharana in front of Malgodownpolice station demanding arrest of the student leader. CityDCP A N Sinha on Friday assured that the accused would bearrested soon.

������� The police said Rout was arrested and produced in theresidential court of Cuttack Sadar SDJM from where he wasreleased on bail.

������� Meanwhile, the situation in Ravenshaw Universitywas also limping back to normal today after an effort wasmade by the university authorities to remove growing animosityamong local and foreign students.

At least five Afghan students were injured, two ofthem seriously when they were assaulted by local students on atrivial issue.
