LDF govt responsible for tragedy:BJP

Kozhikode, Jan 15 (PTI) Senior BJP leader K SreedharanPillai, today alleged that the the CPI-M led LDF governmentwas responsible for the unfortunate stampede at Pullumedunear Sabarimala which claimed 102 lives.

Speaking to mediapersons here , Pillai, a former BJPState President, alleged that the state government had failedto provide basic facilities for the pilgrims.

The state government did not widen the narrow traditionalforest roads, which had resulted in the tragedy, he said.

The Centre was also equally responsible for the tragedy,he charged.

Demanding a judicial probe into the tragedy, Pillaiasked the government to give a solatium of Rs 25 lakh each tothe victims.

BJP had submitted memorandums to the government onseveral occasions on the need for providing basic facilitiesto the pilgrims, he said.

One hundred and two Ayyappa pilgrims were killed and 50injured in a stampede at Pullumedu near the famous Sabarimalahill shrine last night.
