Assam Congress invites Sonia to start poll campaign

Guwahati, Jan 16 (PTI) The Congress in Assam has invitedparty president Sonia Gandhi to inaugurate its Assemblypoll campaign in the state.

''''We have invited Gandhi to be present in the grassroot level workers'' meeting to be held here on January 23,''''Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president BhubaneswarKalita told reporters here today.

The party leader said the presence of Gandhi, whichhas not yet been officially confirmed, will encourage cadresto face the election.

He said the main aim of the meeting would be to educatethe people on two main poll issues - development and welfare.

The party will concentrate on developmental activitiestaken up by the government and take it as an issue for theelection, he said.
