Education key to economic, social upliftment, says Azad

Hyderabad, Jan 14 (PTI) Education is the only way touplift the economy and also the status of an individual insociety, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said today.

Literacy rate in the country has improved phenomenallyand the country''s growth in various sectors was "enormous", hesaid.

Inaugurating the country''s first women''s medicalcollege for minorities near here, Azad said that educationcan bring a great change in the status of women, particularlyin the Muslim community.

The Congress-led UPA Government has launched manywelfare schemes, some of the which encourage professionalminority colleges to focus on science and engineeringeducation, the Minister said.

Praising educationist Vizarat Rasool Khan forestablishing the college, Azad said he hoped more suchinstitutions would come up in the country.
