TNCC seeks PM''s intervention to end attack on fishermen
Chennai, Jan 14 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Congress today soughtPrime Minister Manmohan Singh''s intervention to put an end tothe continued attacks on state fishermen allegedly by SriLankan Navy.
"Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister S M Krishnashould hold talks with Sri Lanka and ensure that such grievousincidents do not take place," TNCC president K V Thangkabalusaid.
In telegrams sent to Singh and Krishna, he urged themto "ensure the livelihood of Tamil Nadu fishermen and theirsafety".
He welcomed the Centre''s move of summoning Sri Lanka''senvoy to India to lodge a protest against the killing of aTamil Nadu fisherman on Wednesday.
He said despite assurances from Sri Lankan presidentMahinda Rajapakse that such incidents would not recur, theyare continuing.
A Pudukottai fisherman was killed in alleged firing bySri Lankan navy off Jegathapattinam coast on Wednesday.
