Minister doubts if KMC can take over Suchitra Mitra''s property

Kolkata, Jan 13 (PTI) West Bengal Urban Developmentand Municipal Affairs Minister Asok Bhattacharya todayexpressed doubt if Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) couldtake over late Rabindrasangeet singer Suchitra Mitra''s flatand her music school ''Rabitirtha''.

"I have enough doubt if KMC can do it. This can bedone only by the state''s Education department and that toowith the approval by the chief minister", Bhattacharya saidreacting to Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee''sinstruction to the city Mayor to take over Mitra''s flat andmusic school.

Banerjee had said yesterday that she has asked the Mayorto take over late Rabindrasangeet exponent Suchitra Mitra''sflat and her music school ''Rabitirtha'' and convert it into amuseum.

"I have asked him to set up an archive at her house,where the musical instruments and other articles used by herwould be put on display," Banerjee said.
