Indian drivers don''t care about road safety: UK policewoman
Coimbatore, Jan 13 (PTI) A policewoman, part of afive-member team from England, which is here to study thefunctioning of police and traffic regulation in the country,today said drivers in India "are not bothered about roadsafety."
The team, which includes four police personnel, is in thecity as part of a cultural exchange programme of RotaryInternational.
After meeting the City Police Commissioner, C SylendraBabu, policewoman Toni Mckie told reporters that police inEngland were "very strict" about traffic violations andaccordingly, drivers also followed traffic rules.
However, Mckie said the majority of the drivers in Indiancities, including Coimbatore, drove "without obeying trafficrules" and were "not bothered about road safety."
The team would be in the city for another five days,during which they would study the functioning of police dogs,she said.
The team would leave for Kochi on Jan 17 to conduct asimilar study there, Toni said.
