Haryana revises lump sum tax on vehicles

Chandigarh, Jan 13 (PTI) Haryana Transport Departmenttoday revised the rate of lump sum tax on two and fourwheelers after notifying the Punjab Motor Vehicles Taxation(Haryana Amendment) Rules, 2011.

Giving this information here today, a spokesperson ofthe Transport Department said that the rate of lumpsumone-time tax on two-wheeled motor vehicles used for personalpurposes having unladen weight not exceeding 90.72 kgs, wouldbe Rs 150. The rate for two-wheeled motor vehicles havingunladen weight exceeding 90.72 kg would be charged on basisof vehicle cost.

He said that tax at the rate of two per cent would becharged of the vehicle''s value upto 60,000 and four per centwould be charged from two-wheeled motor vehicle of the valueof above Rs 60,000 and up to Rs 4 lakh and 5 per cent taxwould be charged if value exceeds Rs 4 lakh.

For two-wheelers, the value of new vehicle forcomputation of tax would be determined on purchase priceinclusive of all expenses and taxes shown in the purchasebill.

Similarly, in case of vehicle manufactured out of India,value would be assessed on basis of purchase price in Indiancurrency including freight and other expenses, such asduty and various taxes levied at the time of its import intothe territory of India.

In case of disposal of a vehicle of any State or CentralGovernment or Government Undertaking by way of auction, thevalue would be determined on basis of auction money ofvehicle, he said.

In case of cars, rate of lumpsum one-time tax would be 2per cent of the value of the car up to Rs 5 lakh.

Similarly, cars of value above Rs 5 lakh and up to Rs 10 lakhwould be charged 4 per cent tax.

Cars with value above Rs 10 lakh and up to Rs 20 lakhwould be charged 6 per cent tax and 8 per cent tax would becharged from car of the value of exceeding Rs 20 lakh, hesaid.
