Srinagar, Jan 12 (PTI) PDP today expressed surpriseover holding of a police recruitment rally without any "priornotice" and alleged that the ruling National Conference inJammu and Kashmir done this to favour its candidates.

"It is surprising that the recruitment was startedwithout any prior notice, information or advertisement and itseems it is meant only for those recommended by the rulingparty," the People''s Democratic Party said in a statementhere.

Expressing strong disapproval of the manner in whichrecruitment drive in Srinagar city has been launched, the PDPsaid "this is another brazen instance of the insincere conductof state government."

The party said most of the people in downtown citywere taken by surprise on learning that a recruitment drivehas been launched in Khanyar.

"Numerous candidates could not appear as a result,"the PDP said, adding, there are thousands of eligible men inSrinagar city who are academically and physically qualifiedto compete for constable''s post.

"The government has thrown all norms and establishedprocedures to the wind by conducting the recruitmentclandestinely. This is in accordance with the tradition andcharacter of National Conference which has revived backdoorentries into government," the Opposition PDP alleged.

It said the youth belonging to the city face acuteunemployment, but the government''s intentions are clear thatit will not provide equal opportunities to all and willinstead use it as means of "corruption, nepotism andfavouritism".

The PDP said the NC has already lost all "moral andpolitical" credibility.

"The government must ensure continuation oftransparency and fairness in recruitment that had beenintroduced by the previous government," the party demanded.

The PDP said the government plans were not clear aboutthe extent of recruitment. "It is necessary that it is notconfined to just one constituency," it said, demanding thatrecruitment drive should be extended to all the Assemblyconstituencies and the government must announce the number oftotal jobs available and the criterion for their distributionand selection.

Khanyar falls in the Assembly constituency representedby state Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali MohammadSagar.
