Karunanidhi demands action against Sri Lanka

Chennai, Jan 13: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi demanded a strong action against Sri Lanka after the report that Lankan navy allegedly fired on Indian fishermen.

The Sri Lankan navy reportedly opened fire on three Indian fishermen at sea near the Tamil Nadu coast and one of those victims was killed and another two managed to escape from the place, though report said that the duo too were seriously injured.

Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin informed the state Assembly about the Chief Minister's telegram.

In the telegram, the CM reportedly wrote, "The atrocities of Sri Lankan Navy are continuing unabated, in spite of repeated assurances given by both Government of India as well as Sri Lankan Government."

Karunanidhi also demanded for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's personal intervention into the whole investigation.

The CM announced Rs 5 lakh compensation and government job for the kins of the deceased.
