Five security personnel killed in Pak suicide attack

Peshawar, Jan 12 (PTI) A suicide bomber rammed anexplosives-laden vehicle into a police station in northwestPakistan today, killing five security personnel and injuringas many, officials said.

The bomber targeted the Miryan police station in Bannudistrict of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province this evening.

The police station and a nearby mosque were severelydamaged by the blast, which was heard from several kilometersaway. Five security personnel were killed and six othersinjured in the attack, Deputy Inspector General of PoliceMuhammad Iftikhar Khan told PTI.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian IftikharHussain confirmed the attack was carried out by a suicidebomber. Ambulances rushed to the site and took the injured andbodies to a nearby hospital.

Officials said they feared the death toll could riseas some persons could be buried in the rubble of the policestation.

Bannu district borders the volatile North Waziristanand South Waziristan tribal regions that are consideredstrongholds of the Pakistani Taliban.
