Court asks police to look into allegations against KGB''s kin

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 12 (PTI) In fresh trouble forformer CJI K G Balakrishnan, a local court here today directedthe police to look into allegations of amassing of wealth byhis family members.

The direction to look into allegations against theex-CJI''s sons-in-law P V Sreenijan and M J Benny and brother KG Bhaskaran was issued to Kochi Police Commissioner by FirstClass Judicial Magistrate A M Basheer on a private complaint.

The petitioner, Francis Pradeeplal, sought an inquiryinto allegations against the three family members of JusticeBalakrishnan, now Chairperson of the National Human RightsCommission.

The directive comes days after a vigilance court inThrissur admitted a petition filed by an NGO seeking a probeinto charges against Balakrishnan''s family members.

The case, in which Justice Balakrishnan is cited as thefirst respondent, has been posted to January 18 for furtherhearing.

In the wake of the charges of amassing wealthdisproportionate to their known sources of income in the last4-5 years, Sreenijan had resigned from Youth Congress whileBhaskaran had quit from the post of government pleader in theHigh court.

Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan had alsorecommended a vigilance probe into the charges after hereceived a complaint.

Kerala Bar Council had earlier requested PresidentPrathiba Patil to order a probe into the charges againstBalakrishnan''s family members while the bar associations ofKozhikode and Thrissur have also made similar demand.
