Salem Corporation employee held on graft charge
Salem (TN), Jan 12 (PTI) A health department employee ofthe city corporation was today arrested on the charge ofdemanding and accepting a cut of Rs 500 from the salary paidto mazdoors under him.
Acting on a complaint, a Vigilance and anti-corruptionpolice team led by DSP Chandramouli laid a trap and arrested CDevarajan (41), a field assistant under the malariaeradication wing, when he was receiving the money from one ofthe mazdoors A.Dayalan, police said.
Police said Devarajan was incharge of 21 mazdoors in thedivision and used to take a cut of Rs 500 from each of themevery month. Dayalan, who did not pay the money for the lasttwo months, had lodged a complaint with the vigilance policeyesterday.
When Devarajan was collecting the money from Dayalan,police arrested him under the Prevention of Corruption Act andrecovered rs 2,000 from him.
He was produced before a magistrate court which remandedhim to 15 days judicial custody.
