Independent wins by-election to ward in Erode corporation
Erode,Jan12 (PTI) An AIADMK supported independentcandidate today won the bye-election to the fifth ward in theErode Municipal Corporation.
The bye-election was necessitated by the death of Congresssupported independent candidate A Muthusamy.
M.Vivekanandhen, son of the deceased councillor,won the seat, securing 776 votes. His nearest Congress rivalMangeswari Punithan secured 644 votes. Another independentcandidate R. Senthilkumar bagged 527 votes and G. SenthilkumarCPI-M who got 57 votes lost his deposit.
Out of a total 2507 votes, 2004 votes were polled.
B Balachandran, Returning Officer for the election,conducted the counting.
The bye-election was conducted on Jan 10.Four personscontested the post.
