BJP attacks govt on rising food inflation

New Delhi, Jan 11 (PTI) Accusing the government of nottaking proactive steps to check rising food prices, the BJPtoday said the "inability" to control inflation was the"biggest failure" of the "economist Prime Minister".

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said "under theleadership of an economist Prime Minister" prices have beenskyrocketing.

He sought to know why the government did not importonions despite knowing that the crop had been destroyedin the country due to rains.

"Whenever a question on price rise is put toPranab Mukherjee, I see irritation writ large on his face,"Prasad said and questioned Finance Minister''s ability tocontrol price rise.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitleysaid the UPA Government had little idea on how to deal withinflation.

"Prices of onions and tomatoes are not coming down,interest rates have been increased six times which is having abad effect on the stock market.... We have a Prime Ministerwho is also an economist. But in the last three years he didnot have any solution to deal with it. It is his biggestfailure," he said at the Delhi BJP headquarters.
