Pak seeks India's explanation on Samjhauta blast

Samjhauta blast
Islamabad, Jan 11: The explosive confessions of Swami Aseemanand seem to have repercussions far and wide. The magnitude of which has even reached Pakistan. This time Pakistan is seeking India's progress report on the Samjhauta blast probe that killed 42 Pakistanis. This comes after Aseemanand's confession that right-wing activists were behind the blasts rather than Islamic terrorists that was otherwise widely believed.

Aseemanand had confessed to the CBI that certain Hindutva elements were behind the plotting of the Samjhauta blast. Pakistan has officially asked for an explanation from India in the wake of these confessions.

The Director-General (South Asia) Afrasiab has summoned Acting Deputy High Commissioner of India, G.V. Srinivas to the Foreign Office to seek a quick explanation to the enquiry from the Pak government.

The Pakistan foreign ministry in a statement said, "It was reiterated to him that the government of Pakistan was awaiting the progress made by the government of India in the investigations."

The Samjhauta blast related confessions comes at a most opportune time for Pakistan when India is kindling pressure to release information on the Mumbai terror attacks that is considered the handiwork of Pakistan-based extremist elements.
