Police encounter guns 9 Maoists; seize explosives

According to sources a police team raided Kashipur-Kalyansinghpur border area, based on a reliable information about the presence of the ultras there. After the gun-battle police recovered explosive materials and bodies of nine slain Maoists.
In another incident on Sunday, Maoists blew-up railway cabin signal point in Orissa. After the attack Maoists left number of posters that demanded the central govt to stop the anti-Maoist operation Green Hunt and the release of Dr Binayak Sen.
Sources said that police are conducting series of encounter across the state. At-least 23 Maoists would have been killed over the last two-months in the police encounter.
However, Human Rights group and the state unit of BJP alleged that many innocent people has been killed in so-called encounters.
Two civilians were killed in a gun battle between police and Maoists on Dec 20, 2010. BJP demanded a strict action against all those involved in the encounter, including police officials. Also demanded CBI probe into the incident and Rs 25 lakh compensation to each victim's family.
