Orissa: Maoists blow-up railway cabin signal point

Rourkela, Jan 9: Armed Maoists, including women cadres on Sunday, Jan 9, carried out a bomb attack on a cabin signal point of Bandamunda railway station in Orissa. The blast disrupted railway services on Howrah-Mumbai and Rourkela-Hatia railway lines.

Railway sources said that 50-60 armed Maoists blew-up the signal point around 2 am, causing damage to the ASM room. After the attack the long-distance trains were halted at various stations

The Maoist left number of posters opposing anti-Maoist operation Green Hunt, executed by the Central govt. They also demanded the center to stop the harassment to the innocent tribals in the name of operation and the release of Dr Binayak Sen.

Sources said, During the attack the extremist took hostage of 12 railway employees. They were later released after giving the threats.

Repair work was continuing and restoration of train services would take place after security clearance, the initial reports said.
