Another shameful rape statistic for Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 3: This piece of news was something that Delhi didn't want to wake up to on the New Year. It was a gruesome murder, something that Delhi will remember for a long time.

A 17 year old girl was gang raped and murdered in Dwarka in Southwest Delhi. She was apparently out for a New Year party when the attackers committed this act of crime on the girl.

Her body was found in a vacant land belonging to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in Dwarka Sector-9. According to preliminary reports, she was initially strangled with her own pair of jeans and unconfirmed reports suggest that she was forced to have unnatural sex. The gruesomeness does not stop there. Her face was apparently smashed with a stone beyond recognition so that identifying her would turn out to be tedious.

The police have found her to be a resident of the New Delhi municipal area. Sharad Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) said, "She told her brother she was going out with her friends. According to preliminary medical reports the girl had sexual intercourse prior to her murder but there were no injuries on her private parts. We are investigating the case from all possible angles."

The police have arrested two boys from the locality who had gone missing after the incident was brought to light.The police have raised doubts that the victim knew the accused.

The body was found by passers-by at around 3.30pm on Saturday. They immediately informed the police.
