Pir Pagara asks Gilani to 'quit honourably' as PPP loses majority
Lahore, Jan 3(ANI): Pakistan Muslim League- Functional (PML-F) President Pir Pagara has advised Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to 'quit honourably', rather than being dislodged after humiliation.
On Sunday, the PPP-led Pakistan government lost its majority in the National Assembly, as Muttahida Qaumi Movement, which has 25 MNAs, decided to sit on the Opposition benches on account of differences with the ruling party.
After Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain called him from London, Pir said the MQM would stick to the decision of sitting on opposition benches and would not change its position.
As for his own party's policy in the changed situation, the PML-F president told The Nation that the "status quo would continue."
At present, Pir's party is supporting the Pakistan People's Party (PPP)-led government both at the Centre and in Sindh. Prime Minister Gilani is a close relative of Pir Pagara.
In response to a question, Pir said Pakistan was heading towards fresh elections, but before that, there would be ruthless accountability of the corrupt. He, however, said that he could not say how long the accountability process could take, as a large number of people had to face the process. (ANI)
