Wife set afire; hubby under suspicion

Chennai, Jan 2: In Chennai a woman was set afire allegedly by her husband at Otteri on Friday, Dec 31. The neighbors found the victim with the fatal burn injuries at her house, called ambulance and admitted the victim in Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. The victim is fighting for her life in hospital.

The victim name Swomya 19-year-old, got married to Suresh, a share autorickshaw driver. The couple got married on Jan 2009. The problem began, when Suresh asked Somya's parents to get him a job as a driver in Chennai Corporation.

At the time of marriage Suresh, received 10 sovereigns of gold and some cash from Sowmay's parents. Suresh again took Rs 10,000 from Sowmya's parents to improve his business. Later he habitually began to demand for money from victim's parents, according to police.

On Friday, Sowmya's relative had tried to call her up to communicate the New Year wishes, but there was no response. Then the relatives went at victim's house and learnt everything from the neighbors.

Police suspect on Suresh, who is found missing after the incident. They suspect that Suresh, might have immolated her, while demanding for dowry. Police have registered a case and searching for Suresh.
