Heavy snowfall fails to deter village voters in Himachal

Buruaa (Himachal Pradesh), Dec.31 (ANI): Despite heavy snowfall, people of Himachal Pradesh's Buruaa village actively participated in village body elections.

Roshan Thakur, a voter, said people were so enthusiastic about casting their vote that they did not care about the snowfall.

"People showed their interest in voting and came out of their houses even in snow," Thakur said on Thursday.

Situated at a height of 2100 meters from sea level, Buruaa Panchayat projects a healthy sign of democracy.

Kishan, a voter, said most people braved the heavy snowfall to cast their vote.

"From 6 in the morning, heavy snowfall is on in the area. The polling procedure started from 7 on Thursday and people started coming for voting even in snowfall. Maximum people were seen at polling booths despite the heavy snowfall," said Kishan.

Women came out to vote as a post of village council head has been reserved for a female candidate.

Himachal Pradesh had its second phase of local bodies election on Thursday. The third phase of the election will be take place on January 1, 2011. By Prem Thakur(ANI)
