School lollipop ladies axed by Brit council to save money
London, Dec 28 (ANI): A survey has revealed that a quarter of local councils are firing traditional school lollipop ladies in a bid to save money.
Authorities are reducing the number of crossing patrols outside schools as funding cuts across the public sector continues, and while some have removed patrols altogether, others have replaced paid staff with volunteers.he study by the Times Educational Supplement has prompted warnings that cost-cutting measures will put children at risk.
"We are extremely worried. In 2009, 12 children were killed or seriously injured on UK roads every day," the Telegraph quoted Caroline Perry, from the road safety charity Brake, as saying.
"We should be working to reduce this number, not making the situation worse," she stated.
According to a survey, a quarter of councils said they are planning to reduce the number of dedicated lollipop ladies. (ANI)
