Kuala Lumpur, Dec 28(ANI): Malaysia will set up three labs for Malaysian Indians focusing on small and medium enterprises (SME), retail industry and reducing crime among youth, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department S. K. Devamany has said.

Addressing the media before meeting members from the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLCICCI), Devamany said: "Indians need help to improve their living standards and compete with others especially in the business world."

He also said that talks with the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) are ongoing to have similar labs established under the National Key Economic Areas (NKEA).

"We are now working on the retail industry because Indians are still running their businesses the traditional way and need to modernise their outlets to compete with others," the Star quoted Devamany, as saying.

The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department also highlighted that Indians need to venture more into SMEs.

"I am also working with Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ismail Omar on establishing a lab to reduce the crime rate among Indian youth," Devamany said. (ANI)
