Kalmadi served CWG on a platter to babus

The Common Wealth Games had controversy written all over it since the start. Now, the multi-crore is getting murkier with news of gross mismanagement and mis-appropriation being published in the media.
The tainted Organising Committee (OC) apparently doled out Rs 74 crore worth complimentary tickets. The figure arrived at by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) who are currently calculating the amount of loss of the mega sporting event.
This explains the dismal turnout of spectators and protests on non-availability of CWG tickets. According to CAG findings the complimentary ticket amounted to the reviewed ticketing target of Rs 80 crore set for the event. The actual ticket sales was around Rs 40 crore. This makes the swindle by the OC a staggering Rs 114 crore.
There was widespread accusations that the CWG merchandise were not marketed and distributed properly. There was close to three lakh unsold tickets.
While the complimentary tickets were used by Kalmadi and Co. to garner political leverage with the bureaucracy, the unsold tickets have become a colossal waste of precious taxpayers money. The value of these VIP tickets were in the slab of Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000, leading to further losses to the CWG.
