Badaun, Dec 22: Strange are the ways politicians employ to grab the limelight. After Arundhati Roy's seditious comments, now its the turn of Samajwadi leader, Azam Khan to court controversy. He made quite a few heads turn when he said that Kashmir being part of India is "debatable".

He was speaking at a political function in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. He also made statements that flared public sentiments when he commented that the Congress was not serious about the interest of minorities and stated that there was only one Muslim in the cabinet.

He stressed his point further and said that only Ghulam Nabi Azad was the Muslim representation in the cabinet and he hails from Kashmir. He said in that context, "Ghulam Nabi Azad is the only Muslim cabinet minister in the Congress. Azad hails from Kashmir and Kashmir as a part of India is debatable."

BJP has slammed the statement made by Azam, while the Congress has rubbished his statement and said it would be better for SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav to come out with a statement.

Azam made these comments when asked by a television channel on his comments on Rahul Gandhi's attempts to woo Muslims. He said, "Azad is not from India, but from Kashmir."
