South Korea halts firing on border

Seoul, Dec 20: South Koreans completed the artillery drill on Monday, Dec 20, on a border island and anticipated the objection from North Korean army. A similar North Korean drill followed the attack on South Korean Yeonpyeong island, which killed four and injured many.

South Korea performed live-fire artillery exercise just hours after United Nation Security Council (UNSC) emergency meeting to calm down the risk of war. But UNSC miserable failed to reduce the tensions between Koreans.

South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Kim Young-sun said, “the drill was routine and legitimate for is self-defense and part of the country's sovereign right."

Sources said that firing sound was halted on the island but people inside the bankers for the shelter were ordered to remain there for few more hours.
