Amjad Ali delights National Museum Day celebration

The celebration was conducted on Saturday, Dec 18 in Delhi. The reopened Saran Rani Backliwal Musical Instruments Gallery is packed with rare 17th century instruments. It has a large collection of musical instruments, both folk and classical, and many of them were from the 17th and 18th Centuries.
Amjad Ali Khan streamed various ragas to herald the reopening. He told that it was an honour to perform in the National Museum. Also, Amjad Ali Khan requested authorities to invite young scholars to research on classical musical instruments, especially on sitar, sarangi, and santoor and publish the research works.
The launch of travelling exhibition 'Heritage Him-sagar' also brightened the evening. This exhibition is scheduled to cover the entire stretch of the country from Kashmir to Kanyakumari on road, giving a glimpse of the country''s golden past, rare artefacts and richness of culture.
Presiding over the function, Jawhar Sircar, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, said the government was taking several initiatives to preserve the cultural heritage of the country.
