Curfew in sensitive areas of Srinagar on Muharram

Srinagar, Dec 17: The authorities of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, Dec 16, announced curfew in some sensitive parts of Srinagar, to prevent Muharram procession held by Shia Muslims in the city.

The Chairman of Moderate Hurriyat Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, has passed the threat that he will withstand the restriction on procession and offer Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid. But, Mirwaiz has been in house arrested since one month.

The official said, “district administration has selected ares falling under seven police stations, on those parts curfew will be strictly imposed."

The areas falling under curfew on Friday, Dec 17, are the Jurisdiction of Police stations Kothi Bagh, Maisuma, Kralkhud, MR Gunj, Safa Kadal, Nowhatta and Khanyar, covering major parts of the city.

"Traffic will not be allowed from Jehangir Chowk-Hari Singh High Street-Residency Road up to Radio Kashmir Crossing," the spokesman said.
