SC to monitor 1.76 lakh crore 2G scam probe

New Delhi, Dec 16: Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday, Dec 16 announced that it would supervise the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the inquiry of 1.76 lakh crore 2G spectrum scam from 2001 to 2008.

The investigation also look into the role of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) into the spectrum scam and it would also check the expenses of loans by public sector banks.

The probe that would be monitored by the Supreme Court would have a minute vigilant on the Department of Telecom (DoT) officials who were signatory to the license agreement.

The Supreme Court also asked the Income Tax officials to deliver the transcripts of the tapped conversations (Niira Radia and one well known journalist) followed by the order of the Home Secretary to the CBI.

Former Telecom Minister and DMK leader A Raja was forced to resign from his post following the controversial scam of 2G spectrum.

CBI on Dec 15 also raided several related officials residences and offices regarding the scam.

On the other side, oppositions like BJP and others continued their demand of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into matter.
